THE WAY IT WAS ON QUEEN >>> Queen St. in the 60s and 70s was filled with restaurants. One notable restaurant was Barsanti's located between Pim and East St. It was common those days for families to work in those establishments. One family that had roots at the Barsanti Restaurant was the Plastino Family. Here is what Armando Plastino had to say about his teenage years working at Barsanti's. "For me, Barsanti’s was truly a family affair. My Mother, two brothers and I all worked there as well as two aunts and two cousins. Barsanti’s had a banquet hall upstairs called the Tuscany room which was used for weddings and other celebrations especially in the summer months. In fact my brother Frank had his wedding reception there and I took my then to be wife to the reception on one of our first dates. My job along with one of my cousins was to wash dishes, prepare the Tuscany room for celebrations, help serve the food and then clean up afterwards. We all worked pretty hard as the restaurant was very busy and was a big part of the Queen Street scene at the time". In later years Armando enjoyed successful career at Algoma Steel culminating into several key appointments - Chief Operating Officer and then Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Directors..
