I was out for a walk in this beautiful weather. I have always wondered what the ring about the sun was called.

It is known as a sun halo or 22° halo, is a bright, white ring or arc of light that appears around the sun. This phenomenon is caused by sunlight refracting off ice crystals in the atmosphere, typically in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. The ice crystals act as prisms, bending the sunlight and creating the visible ring.
