The news business involves a lot of late-night writing sprees getting the latest developments to you in timely manner. For years, I toiled during the wee hours in our headquarters at Queen and Bruce. Our security cameras allow us to see everything happening on the streets.

Time after time, I witnessed the staff and volunteers of the Downtown Association working as late as 3 a.m., cleaning up and removing traffic barricades after exciting downtown events.

It will be interesting to see how the city is going to manage without the levies and beyond-the-call-of-duty efforts of this self-financed organization, now reduced to being a political ‘lame duck.’
