Dream boards are an opportunity to see your room in a new light.

Inspiration can come from anywhere.

Putting a board together is like a puzzle but you get to pick what fits and where.

Do you have to start with a colour? No.

What if you love your bedroom furniture but not the floor colour? Do you change the floor? No.

Choosing colours, fabrics and patterns can tone down a bossy floor colour.

How do you do it?

Grab colour swatches that you want to add to your room at the paint store of choice. (I'm a fan of Benjamin Moore but I've also colour matched either different brands).

Place the swatches on the floor and see if there is one that makes the floor "feel" less bossy.

It's the honey oak theory: if the orange is too pronounced in the flooring, don't add rusts and browns.

Neutralize the warm orange with complementary colours like blue, grey and green toned paint.

Bedrooms tend to have large furnishings so unless you have a massive primary bedroom, the bed takes up most of the space.

So choose bedding, paint or wallpaper that emphasizes cooler colours.

Grey flooring has become popular and it can be as bossy as honey tones.

Does that mean grey walls? No.

There are lots of alternatives that we can explore.

How have you added colour in your spaces? Show us!

Dream boards help make the decisions before you spend any money.
